All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts. – James Allen

Choose to be your best self.

Choose what has worked well for many rather than what has merely functioned for a few.

Choose success.

It’s your rope.

Abundance
To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given.

Scarcity
But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

Use it or lose it 🙂

A New Day
by George J. Carroll

My challenge is over!

1. Water

Goal: to drink a healthy amount of water every day. Rule of thumb: body weight divided in half is the amount of water, in ounces, that the body requires daily.

Final result: I am now drinking a healthy amount of water during the week. On the weekends, things fall apart. There are so many distractions especially now that the weather is warm. Unfortunately, I can feel the difference. I don’t feel optimal. I will definitely continue to work on this.

2. Walking

Goal: to take the recommended 10,000 steps per day.

Final result: FAIL! 🙂 I have tried everything that I can think of and I cannot do 10,000 steps per day. I have found that I enjoy trying to take more steps than the day before. So I’ll continue to take walks, park further away, make hourly laps around the office, etc. I may just reach 10,000 steps yet!

3. Gratitude Journal

Goal: to maintain a healthy, happy, positive outlook.

Final result: I list my 5 things about 3-4 times a week. To me, this habit did not stick and I so want it to.

I’m going to schedule it! I seem to be doing okay with time management.

4. Time Management

Goal: to be more organized and finish projects timely.

Final result: Over the course of a month, I finished quite a few projects. Of course this made room for new ones but that’s okay. I like this habit. I think it stuck.

5. Punctuality

Goal: to be punctual as a matter of course.

Final result: I was on time about 90% of time last week. I want to be early. I’ve made progress but this habit needs more time to stick. I’ll definitely keep working at it.

Overall, I think that I did a pretty good job.

I’m certainly better off than when I started!

Due to circumstances
beyond my control,
I am master of my fate
and captain of my soul.

Enjoy your weekend 🙂

Thank you all for the well wishes! They so lifted my spirits.

As for the challenge, last week was a bust but I’m all better now and ready to jump back in. Of course, I have tons of ambition and energy now 🙂

This week, I’m going to stick with my previous goals.

1. Water

Goal: to drink a healthy amount of water every day. Rule of thumb: body weight divided in half is the amount of water, in ounces, that the body requires daily.

This week: I will add 1 cup of tea in the morning and 1 after dinner.

2. Walking

Goal: to take the recommended 10,000 steps per day.

This week: Add more steps. Ways to Walk 2000 More Steps a Day

3. Gratitude Journal

Goal: to maintain a healthy, happy, positive outlook.

This week: Throughout the day, I will list 5 things that I’m grateful about for that day.

4. Time Management

Goal: to be more organized and finish projects timely.

This week: I will list 5 things that I want to accomplish this week and schedule one per day with a time to start and finish the task.

5. Punctuality

Goal: to be punctual as a matter of course.

This week: I will schedule my time and stick to it.

I did pretty good this week until it started to rain. And yes, I will be blaming my lack of steps on the rain 🙂

1. Water

Goal: to drink a healthy amount of water every day. Rule of thumb: body weight divided in half is the amount of water, in ounces, that the body requires daily.

This week: I will add 1 cup of tea in the morning and 1 after dinner.

Result: I’m almost there! I missed only 2 after dinner teas. I’m going to stick with this goal for the remainder of the challenge as I don’t need to add any more water to what I already drink.

2. Walking

Goal: to take the recommended 10,000 steps per day.

This week: Add more steps.

Result: I did park further away, took walks at lunch, and after work and still haven’t come close to 10,000. I must admit, the first day that it rained, I lounged. But the second day, I shopped and walked for hours. That was a good day in oh so many ways! But I digress. I only walked after work or at lunch on some days not everyday and I didn’t wear my pedometer on Monday.  My average steps this week was 3221. I didn’t do so great at walking this week 😦  And, unfortunately, the forecast is rain all week. I need some creative ideas for adding more steps inside.

3. Gratitude Journal

Goal: to maintain a healthy, happy, positive outlook.

This week: Before bed, I will list 5 things that I’m grateful about for that day.

Result: I did this for a total of 6 days! Some of it is on my phone, some in my journal, and some in both places but it’s done. Yay me! Shooting for 7 days this week.

4. Time Management

Goal: to be more organized and finish projects timely.

This week: I will list 5 things that I want to accomplish this week and schedule one per day with a time to start and finish the task.

Result: I finished all 4 tasks from last week and it didn’t even take that long. Why was I procrastinating? To be safe, I’m not adding any more this week. This week, I will complete 5 more tasks.

5. Punctuality

Goal: to be punctual as a matter of course.

This week: I will schedule my time and stick to it.

Result: I was on time everyday except one. And I was early a couple of times!  I will attempt this step again this week as I want to be early rather than on the dot.

Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but an all-the-time gratitude, the kind where you notice the little things and where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful. — Marelisa Fábrega

After a long, luxurious weekend, it is time to get back to business.

1. Water

Goal: to drink a healthy amount of water every day. Rule of thumb: body weight divided in half is the amount of water, in ounces, that the body requires daily.

This week: I will add 1 cup of tea in the morning and 1 after dinner.

Result: I actually did this everyday . . . until the long weekend. I will attempt this step again this week.

2. Walking

Goal: to take the recommended 10,000 steps per day.

This week: To get a baseline, I will wear a pedometer to count my average steps per day.

Result: I kept up with my steps all week. My average steps per day are 2840. ?! 2840 is a long way away from 10,000. I will add more steps this week by parking further away at work, stores, etc. and taking a walk after work.

3. Gratitude Journal

Goal: to maintain a healthy, happy, positive outlook.

This week: Before bed, I will list 5 things that I’m grateful about for that day.

Result: I did this for a total of 2 days. 😦 I recounted the things that I’m grateful for mentally but that wasn’t the task. To journal, I must write. This week, I will jot down what I’m grateful for throughout the day. At the end of the day, I will have at least 5 things.

4. Time Management

Goal: to be more organized and finish projects timely.

This week: I will list 5 things that I want to accomplish this week and schedule one per day with a time to start and finish the task.

Result: I accomplished 1 thing on my list. Ok, I’m not doing so great at this but it is only the first week 🙂 This week, I will finish the 4 items left on last week’s list.

5. Punctuality

Goal: to be punctual as a matter of course.

This week: I will schedule my time and stick to it.

Result: I generally stuck with my schedule and was on time 75% of the week. Other than the fact that I didn’t complete my tasks, I was on time most of the week. That’s not too bad!  I will attempt this step again this week for better results.
